CIRCULAR ECONOMY

The leather economy today, thanks to growing technological innovations, can for all purposes be defined as a circular economy.
Leather is a waste product resulting from the processing of the food industry which is recovered thanks to the tanning sector.

AWARDS AND CERTIFICATIONS

The company, operating in compliance with applicable environmental laws, has developed processes that reduce the impact of its activities thanks to a UNI EN ISO 14001: 2015 certified Environmental Management System.
The Vecchia Toscana Group in 2019 obtained a bronze medal rating released by the Leather Working Group in the context of environmental certification.

RECYCLING OF WASTE AND PROCESSING WASTE

Vecchia Toscana Group sends over 96% of the waste produced for recovery.
The by-products of tanning processing are reused in many ways depending on the type: the meat residues that are removed from the skin are used for the production of fats destined for industry, the shavings and the scraps of leather are transformed and reused for the production of fertilizers for agriculture.

METAL FREE LEATHER

The latest research from the Vecchia Toscana Group focuses on metal free leather.
This type of leather is the result of recent technological innovation that allows production in the total absence of metals, reaching a degree of environmental sustainability never before achieved and of extremely high quality levels.

PURIFICATION PLANTS

The efficiency of a state-of-the-art purification plant in the tanning district has allowed over the years the treatment of waste water with very low environmental impact.
Over 87% of the chromium baths are recovered and reused in the production process, the discharges and the purification sludge are treated and used for the production of materials used in construction and asphalts.

REDUCED CONSUMPTION

Continuous study and research have led to a reduction in the use of water and chemicals within the tanning formulae. Within 2 years, the consumption of chemicals per m2 of leather produced was reduced by 50%

LOW EMISSION INDUSTRY

Gruppo Vecchia Toscana has invested in its business in order to represent a virtuous reality from the point of view of mitigating its environmental impact, 98% of the product is processed internally: this optimizes logistics and control consumption as well as constantly keeping production under control.
